Using an Older Notebook? |
Your older notebook should have these features and upgrades.
8" diagonal (or larger) back-lighted SVGA TFT Display
Windows 98 or better -- Be sure to upgrade to the latest patches available from Microsoft before installing Field Manager Software. Do not use Windows 95 or Windows 98 first edition!
Remove as many applications as you can if operating with a 10 GB Hard Drive, as the operating system and required browser will take substantial disk space.
Minimum 750 MHz Pentium CPU (Pentium II or better Processor recommended)
128+ MB RAM (Upgradeable to larger for other applications), 10 GB Hard Drive
Be sure to download and install the highest version of the Internet Explorer Browser available to you from the Microsoft website. This feature brings with it system software that is called upon by Soil Doctor Field Manager Software.
Built-in Modem, line-input jack, microphone jack, and stereo sound output jacks. (Do not accept a system that does not have a line-input jack)
Internal or External Floppy and CD-ROM Drives, CD-RW preferred for data transfer
At least One Serial, One Parallel, One USB and one PS/2 Mouse port (for USB support-Contact CTI)
Internal Battery Pack (Lithium ion type preferred) -- Be sure to purchase a fresh battery as older notebook models suffered from poor battery lifetime.
One Type II PCMCIA Card Slot or better, and
AC Power Adapter, so you can work with the unit in your office

PCMCIA Serial I/O Card (For Planting or GPS input, or both)
External track pad for remote operation (optional)
A Cigarette Lighter power adapter for on-tractor power (D.C. to computer direct, preferred)
Compact flash cards and flash adapters for data transport to your desktop, if CD-RW not available
